Mic­hael Spe­i­er, born in 1950, li­ves in Ber­lin as a wri­ter, tran­sla­tor and bo­ok cri­tic. He pu­blis­hed nu­me­ro­us po­e­try bo­oks and se­ve­ral ant­ho­lo­gi­es. He tran­sla­tes con­tem­po­rary po­e­try from En­glish, French and Il­ta­lian. He te­ac­hes li­te­ra­tu­re on uni­ver­si­ti­es in Ger­many and the USA. He is the fo­un­ding edi­tor of the Paul-Ce­lan-Ja­hr­buch and the li­te­rary ma­ga­zi­ne Park, the di­rec­tor of Mi­lan Po­e­try Fe­sti­val (2007) and li­te­rary ma­ga­zi­ne PO VI in Pa­ris. He to­ok part in in­ter­na­ti­o­nal po­e­try fe­sti­vals in Medellín, Ro­sa­rio, Bel­gra­de, Malmö, Zu­rich, No­vi Sad and Ber­lin. He is a mem­ber of the PEN In­ter­na­ti­o­nal. He re­ce­i­ved nu­me­ro­us grants and va­ri­o­us awards for his work by De­utschen Schil­ler­stif­tung, We­i­mar, and A+A Kul­tur­stif­tung Köln.
